Epitalon and the exceptional survivor

About this site

The average animal

An exceptional result can become the whole story surprisingly quickly. The animals outside that frame deserve an advocate in the argument.

Why this result

Keystone Peptide is an editorial site about published Epitalon research. It grew from an argument with a mouse experiment that reported increased maximum lifespan alongside an unchanged mean. I wanted the average animal to remain visible in a story so easily organised around an exceptional survivor.

Keystone names the supporting result in a larger argument. If a claim concerns extending life generally, I judge that claim partly by how much of its weight the group’s survival can bear. I favour an improvement that reaches across the animals. The furthest survivors still pose a biological puzzle I would enjoy seeing solved.

That preference is open to argument. A repeat that explained the whole survival distribution and accounted carefully for harms could change the place of the maximum in my argument. Such a disagreement would be welcome.

Telomeres and human survival

The normal- and breast-cancer cell work complicates an easy enthusiasm for telomere lengthening. The human mortality follow-up complicates the habit of gathering related preparation names under a single longevity claim. Those findings supply the friction that makes this subject worth a closer look.

Declaring this line of research either a triumph or a dead end would satisfy neither my curiosity nor my scepticism. The mouse paper alone contains enough mixed outcomes to reward a more patient argument. Its exceptional survivors deserve an explanation, and its unchanged mean deserves equal space.

I return to a narrow question: what exactly improved, for whom, and how widely? I would prize a well-bounded answer over an expansive claim about rejuvenation.

Medical decisions

These essays concern experiments and the conclusions I think they support. They offer no medical advice or treatment plan. Keystone Peptide has no clinical or retail operation; there is nothing to arrange or obtain here. Personal decisions about health belong in a conversation with a qualified clinician who can consider the person involved.
